Hiring a boat is the ideal way to explore the hidden beauties of Agistri. Agistri is situated between the island of Aegina and the ancient town of Epidaurus, on the Peloponnese mainland. A private boat cruise in this wonderful green gem will allow you to rejuvenate, while being away from the city’s hustle, making you feel like the living postcard summer in Greece is known for. You can easily find the ideal boat from the Port of Skala or Megalochori in Agistri. For the ideal catamaran, sailboat, or motor yacht you can depart from any marina of either Athens or Aegina. You can directly contact the owners of the vessels for the ideal boat, or simply allow a BednBlue travel expert to guide you with some suggestions.

You have plenty of options:

You can book and hire a sailboat or speedboat with a skipper, or without one if you own a license, and enjoy a day cruise to Aponisos. You also have the option to rent a motorboat; their fast-cruising speed will allow you to explore Aegina and the islets of Dorousa and Moni on the same day. If you book a catamaran, you can enjoy a sunset cruise in Dragoneri Beach or spend a night in Chalkiada. Finally, you can rent a luxury sailboat and island-hop the Saronic Gulf, making sure to include the tiny island of Agistri in your sailing holiday.

Agistri Skala

Agistri is situated in the heart of the Saronic Gulf and is only a two-hour ferry ride from the Port of Piraeus. It is frequently visited by tourists for a relaxing weekend break due to its closeness to Aegina. Agistri has an area of only 14 sq km and has three small settlements nestled in a pine-studded landscape. The island’s capital is known as Megalochori  or Mylos, filled with scenic alleyways, dazzling white houses, and a small port where fishing boats moor. Two kilometres east of Megalochori, you will find the main port of the island, Skala, which also is the most developed spot in Agistri. This is where the main life of the island is spent. There are also a variety of beaches, tavernas, and hotels. Almost adjacent to Skala is the traditional village of Metochi, and 5km south of Megalochori is the traditional village of Limenaria. Agistri translates to fishing hook in Greek. According to Greek mythology, the goddess Aphaia escaped from Aeginian fishermen by hiding in local sea caves. The goddess Artemis assisted Aphaia by giving her flowers to decorate her head, which is why the island was nicknamed Kekryfaleia, meaning “beautifully decorated head.”

Before you rent a boat in Agistri and discover some truly exotic beaches, you can visit several sights. The church of Agioi Anargyroi is located next to the beach of Skala. It is often photographed for its distinctive sky-blue dome. The Church of Virgin Mary is a regular destination for trekkers offering excellent views of the sea. If you are strolling around Metochi village you can also visit the church of Zoodochos Pigi.

For an authentic Greek island tour from Athens, you can visit both Aegina and Agistri. Agistri is only 20 nautical miles away from Alimos Marina and only 3 southwest of Aegina. You can also rent a speedboat from Piraeus and reach Agistri in only 1 hour. When you arrive at Skala, you have the option to swim on the beach by the port. The beach offers watersports and is ideal for children due to its shallow waters. The beautiful Aponisos islet lies on the west coast, forming a secluded bay surrounded by greenery. One of the most known beaches in Agistri is Chalkiada, which is also close to the port. It is completely unorganized and surrounded by green cliffs. Each of the beaches in Agistri is different and full of surprises. Dragonera Beach, Skliri, and Xekofti are some other beaches you can visit along with your boat tours in Agistri.

You can also combine your boat trips in Agistri with other islands in the Saronic Gulf and the Peloponnese. Take the time to explore Aegina, Poros, Hydra, Methana, or Spetses for example. By renting a sailboat or catamaran, you will have the option to spend a night in Moni or Dorousa. The nearby islets of Metopi, Kyra, and Spalathronisi have exceptional beaches that can be accessed with a yacht and are great for swimming and snorkeling. Not only will you enjoy a refreshing dive, but you will have the luxury to enjoy the fresh Greek delicacies right on the seashore.

Below you will find some useful information for your boat rentals in Agistri.

Skala Port: Mooring is recommended for smaller boats since the water is quite shallow. The only place where sailing boats or catamarans can moor is dedicated to ferries.

A better option for larger vessels is the marina in Milos; a small but protected marina since there are no reefs in the entrance.

Megalochori Port:  A natural port situated to the right of Skala. Boats can refuel here or enjoy a cruise to the natural bays around. There are flying dolphins arriving from Piraeus.
