Makarska is a popular tourist destination with a long seafront on the Adriatic Coast. In the past, sailors used the natural harbor of Makarska as a sailing ground and for shelter from bad weather. The city attracts thousands of visitors yearly who want to make the most out of their holiday in Croatia and besides its beautiful beaches, there are several historical sights one can visit. A few worth mentioning are the 500-year-old Franciscan Monastery, the church of St. Mark and the imposing mountain of Biokovo which is above the 60km coastline of the Riviera. The Makarska Riviera is composed of different towns and gorgeous beaches that line up the coastline. Krvaviva, Tucepi, Baska Voda, Zivogosce and Gradac are some of the small towns that offer every visitor a promenade accompanied by restaurants and bars that fill with music for entertaining their guests. This is just a glimpse of the things you can do in Makarska, there are also authentic quality wines and traditional Croatian cuisine you must taste during your stay here, some of which have menus that change by the day with fresh caught fish. One of the largest events you can partake in is the Makarska Cultural Summer with live performances, music and dancing along the coast. Once you are ready to have a vacation that will stay with you forever, select your yacht and sail past the Riviera to other destinations around Dalmatia including Split, Brac, Hvar and Dubrovnik.

For day boat trips in Makarska, you must begin by sailing to Podgora, where you can enjoy the crystal clear sea, while the scenic view resembles those found in other towns present in Makarska Riviera. This village has calm beaches filled with palm trees, ideal if you are looking for peace. Situated about 24 kilometres from Makarska, on its south, you can visit Drvenik. In case you are not fond of crowds, look no further than this place. Drvenik is gaining traction among tourists because of its scrumptious food and its gorgeous landscape. If you want to continue a typical yacht cruising experience in the Riviera you can also stop by Gradac on the south. This old fishing village offers great views of Mount Biokovo and has the longest beach in Makarska, also called Gornja Vala where you can enjoy the shade under century-year- old pine trees. You can also extend your cruise to Ploče which has its own natural harbor with one of the best modern churches constructed on the seaside, also referred to as ‘White basilica’. Close to the town the Bacina Lakes have depth ranges from 3 to 45 metres where you can enjoy paddle surfing and swimming in one of the best natural environments in Croatia. Trpnaj is a scenic town located on the Pelješac Peninsula’s northwestern side. It boasts of several beautiful beaches, which are pebbly and you can easily dock your yacht for moments of relaxation with palms and pines surrounding you. In fact, St. Peter’s church is also located here and the gradina on top of the hills which is also an important cultural site.

Makarska to Hvar or Dubrovnik day trips are also possible. The island of Hvar is almost always included in island-hopping itineraries. You can tour various sandy beaches here or enjoy the party-like atmosphere in the many clubs. From Hvar you can head to Sumartin in Brac which is home to many crystal clear bays such as Rasotica and Studena Bay or even go for a 5 island tour taking your chance to visit Split and Trogir for as many days as you wish. Heading back to your boat you can once again sail back to Makarska for a week-long experience. If you are under a limited time constraint we recommend you to hire a motor yacht, thanks to their fast cruising speed you will be able to see many places in a short amount of time. By visiting Dubrovnik you will be amazed by the Port and you can even make quick stops to Mljet which is nearby. If you have missed out on the laid-back vibe in Makarska, take your chance to unwind with your family or group in beaches such as Vrulja, Brela and Punta Rata, which are filled with watersports and resorts, and are great places to cool off on a hot summer day.
