Boats in Kyrenia

Kyrenia is a town on the northern coast of Cyprus and a great place to enjoy a summer holiday. Thanks to its typical Mediterranean climate and sandy beaches, you can unwind and relax. Before you enjoy a boat cruise in North Cyprus, you might like to spend some time wandering around the town.

Above the charming and historic harbor, you will find the fabulous castle of Kyrenia. It is home to one of the world’s most important pieces of marine archaeology. In 1965, divers discovered what has been found to be the oldest shipwreck ever recorded, dating all the way back to 300 BC. From above, you will be able to appreciate the harbor and the surrounding natural beauty, where a range of seafaring vessels line the glistening coast.

In its heyday, the port conducted a thriving trade between Cyrpus and mainland Turkey. Caiques would bring in wood, legumes, small luxury items such as silk and cotton cloth, as well as odd pieces of furniture to the harbor. Over the next decades, the caiques were destroyed within the harbor due to British occupation. As a result, the trade with the Anatolian coast declined. Today, the harbor is a tourist resort. Fishing boat trips, snorkeling, party boats, and relaxing cruises are offered throughout the day and in the evenings.

If you have decided to rent a boat in North Cyprus, we highly recommend you depart from Kyrenia Harbor. You can spend a few hours or a full day exploring the beautiful beaches between Kyrenia and Karpaz Gate Marina. Curving round in a gentle bay fringed with trees and sheltered by the foothills of the Kyrenia Mountains, you will find the idyllic Escape Beach. This features shallow waters and golden sands. It is also perfect for watersports and scuba diving and has several facilities such as a beach club and restaurant. From Escape Beach, you can head to the large sandy Turtle Beach of Alagadi. About 21 nautical miles away is Kaplica Bay. The bay is protected from southerly winds and perfect for an overnight stay on a catamaran or sailboat.

On your boat cruise in North Cyprus, you can finally navigate the waters around the Karpaz Peninsula. Golden Beach is near a village named Diplkarpaz. It offers many opportunities to sunbathe and recharge, and a few restaurants nearby offer delicious meals. The city of Famagusta further down the east coast, is home to the largest port in the northern region of the island. The sandy beaches of Famagusta and Bafra will allow you to enjoy the wonders of the Mediterranean in absolute privacy. Finally, renting a boat in Kyrenia is perfect for vacationers who want to enjoy a relaxing cruise away from the crowds.
