Thasos is an island in Greece blessed with fine nature just 12 nautical miles from the port of Kavala. The capital of the island, Limenas is situated on the north side of the island and has a charming harbor with several boats departing for daily cruises. Some sights worth visiting include the ancient agora of Thassos where you will come across a monumental complex featuring 3rd century Roman temples, buildings and statues. You can also visit the Ancient Theatre of Thassos right above the harbor, several festivals take place throughout the year where many people gather to enjoy performances in a milieu of panoramic views. Every June all the way to September, the locals collect and process honey, which Thassos is renowned for. Aside from Honey making, Olive picking and wine harvesting are other activities even travelers can participate in during these months. The varied coastline of Thassos offers diving opportunities in underwater rocks and reefs, there are also perfect conditions for windsurfing since the island can get quite windy in summer. Some great options for watersports are Pachis Beach, Skala Rachoni Beach in the north or Psili Ammos Beach and Potos Beach in the south. If you have had your fair share of fun in the center of the island, it is time to enjoy a boating holiday around the coastline or even navigate neighbouring islands where you can create lifetime experiences.

Boat hire in Thassos ticks most of the boxes for a top-notch charter experience in Greece. You can depart from Limenas and head along the eastern coast where you will find Limanaki, Glikadi and Papalimani beaches that can be toured with a speedboat for a day at a great price. Alternatively, you can head to the eastern coast where you will come across Makryammos Beach, the Beach of Saliara and the famous Golden beach which is organized offering perfect moments for relaxation for various ages. This beach is near the traditional village of Panagia with the coastline extending to Potamia which is blessed with verdant vegetation and mountain trails right above. In fact you will catch sight of Mount Ypsario which has an altitude of 1208 metres and is the tallest summit in Thassos. During your sailing trip you can always dock your sailboat or catamaran in a sheltered bay or relax at a lovely secluded beach. If you have a limited time constraint, select your favourite motor boat and tour the entire coastline, taking in an experience you never thought was possible!

Alyki has some of the most beautiful bays in Thassos and is situated on the southeast side of the island. Right before Paros invaded and took control of Thassos, the white marble was exported across the bay of Alyki in big ships and was used by multiple countries in the Aegean Sea. A little further you will come across Giola lagoon which is a natural shaped pool, secluded with turquoise waters. During peak season, Alyki can get quite crowded so a great alternative just 4km off the southern coastline of Thassos, one can visit the village of Limenaria. This is the second largest town after Limenas, here you will experience the Greek ‘philoxenia’ and enjoy the local specialties by the seaside, a great stop and choice for your boat trips in Thassos.

Yacht rentals in Greece offer multiple opportunities for island-hopping experiences. Halkidiki, Lemnos and Samothraki which is a little further away, are options you can add to your cruising program. Halkidiki has many resorts that line the coastline with pristine beaches and tucked-away coves where you can spend an overnight. With a skipper you can enjoy even more spits in the three different ‘fingers’ that form the peninsula of Halkidiki. Sithonia makes up the middle ‘finger’, lots of catamarans and sailboats come here for the clean water or to escape from the crowds that fill Kassandra which is relatively close to Thessaloniki. For the more advanced sailor, heading to Lemnos and Samothraki you can enjoy a long stay for a 7-day charter experience. Although they may seem as far-flung corners of the Aegean, The strong wind conditions make it perfect for surfing and the hospitality of the people will make you return with an ever-present smile.
